The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has found two brothers, Abugu Kenneth and Abugu John Onwuima, guilty and incarcerated them for two years each behind bars for the illegal smuggling of illicit drugs.

Justice Ambrose Alagoa presented the decision on Monday after these offenders claimed responsible to a one-court charge of illegal transportation of drug initiated towards them by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA.

However, the judge renders a verdict of a fine of N3m, each, amounting to N6m in total.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA accused the brothers of planning to smuggle 2.5 kilograms of cocaine each without legal approval and clearance. Abu Ibrahim, the NDLEA’s prosecutor, informed the court that these brothers were taken into custody on April 4, 2025, at the departure hall of the new terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja-Lagos.

Both offenders are required to either complete their prison sentences or pay the fine as ordered by the court.
